เกือบ 300 ปีแล้วที่เกาะเล็กๆแห่งนี้ถือกำเนิดขึ้นจากการขุดคลองลัดลำน้ำเจ้าพระยาและกว่า 200 ปี ที่ชาวมอญได้มาตั้งรกรากอาศัย จากท่าน้ำวัดสนามเหนือใกล้ตัวอำเภอปากเกร็ด ลงเรือข้ามฟากไปขึ้นเกราะเกร็ดตรงท่าน้ำวัดปรมัยยิกาวาส จากวัดปรมัยฯ ใครอยากเดินเพลินๆหรือขี่จักรยานก็แล้วแต่ความชอบตลอดซอกซอยที่ลัดเลาะไป จะได้ชิมขนมอาหารพื้นเมืองและซื้อสินค้าหัตถกรรม เรียกว่าเดินไปกินไปซื้อไปกันอย่างจุใจ

สำหรับวัดปรมัยยิกาวาส มีศิลปกรรมที่สำคัญในวัดคือ พระมหารามัญเจดีย์ เป็นเจดีย์ทรงรามัญ ภายในยังมีภาพจิตรกรรมฝาผนัง เขียนแบบสามมิติ (perspective) แบบตะวันตก พิพิธภัณฑ์วัดปรมัยยิกาวาส จัดแสดงศิลปกรรมมอญที่หาชมได้ยาก ได้แก่ งานแกะดุนโลหะ ยอดฉัตรพระมหารามัญเจดีย์ และงานเครื่องกระดาษ เช่น เหมหรือโลงศพ สำหรับงานศพพระเถระ เชิงบันไดทางขึ้นพิพิธภัณฑ์ มีโอ่งดินเผา เป็นฝีมือช่างเกาะเกร็ด ปั้นเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2468 พิพิธภัณฑ์ฯ เปิดเฉพาะเสาร์ – อาทิตย์

ส่วนเรือนั่งรอบเกาะเกร็ด มีเรือหางยาวนั่งได้ประมาน 8 คน เหมาลำลำละ 500 บาท(ราคาอาจเปลี่ยนแปลงตามช่วงเวลา) ถ้าแวะคลองขนมหวานจะราคาอยู่ที่ 700 บาท หรือเรือเล็กเช่าจากปากเกร็ด เข้าคลองขนมหวานราคาประมาน 150-200 บาท
